How To Integrate Into Your Community After Moving
After moving into a Putnam Builders custom home stress levels are high. There are a lot of changes for your and your family: new commutes to work and school, new grocery and hardware stores, and an entirely new community to integrate with. Joining in, and making friends and connections can be challenging but there are a few easy steps to make getting to know your new community easier.
Take note of what activities your neighbors are interested in, without being a stalker. You may see your neighbor loading up kids’ football equipment or see that your neighbor has an elaborate garden or custom backyard grill setup. These things that you notice can help you start up a conversation about something that interests your neighbors. You can ask about local sporting teams, greenhouse supply stores, or backyard cooking. This common ground can be a great icebreaker and can lead you into a safe conversation. But how do you find out this information on your neighbors without appearing to be a creepy stalker?
Walk Around Your Neighborhood
Taking regular walks around your neighborhood is a great way to de-stress after your likely hectic move, but it is also a great way to get to know your neighborhood. You will get to know what restaurants, bakeries, bars, and specialized shops are walking distance from your house. As you’re walking around, you’ll be able to take note of your neighbors’ interests and maybe even meet of few fellow walking neighbors.
Host a Housewarming Party
Hosting a housewarming party is a great way to show off your new custom home to your friends and family. But if you’re wanting to get to know your neighbors, including them in the shindig is a fantastic way to kick off making new friends. During the stress of moving in, unpacking boxes, and settling in to your new routine, you probably didn’t have much time to get to know your neighbors. So send out invitations in-person or by mail to get to know your neighbors in a relaxed environment.
Join Neighborhood Facebook Groups and NextDoor.com
Many neighborhoods have a Facebook group that you can join. Some groups are strictly neighborhood watch, where others are more social. Whatever group is offered it will be a good way to at least learn your neighbors’ names.
NextDoor.com is a social network for communities where you can post news, alerts, items for sale, and interact with your neighbors. You neighbors may post community events, meetups, and sport team signups. So, it’s a great way to find common interests and get involved in your community.
Joining a new community can seem stressful, but if you follow this guide hopefully it’ll be a fun and exciting experience for you and your family. A seamless integration into your new community can make the relocation process easier, so take the time to get involved. And, Welcome To The Neighborhood!
